چکیده

Background Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common inheritable heart disease, characterized by marked left ventricular hypertrophy in the absence of a disease that can cause hypertrophy to such extent. Both LV ejection fraction (EF) and LV mass have proven to be prognosticators in HCM. The literature is inconsistent with respect to inor exclusion of papillary muscles (PMs) to LV-mass, which might influence volumetric results. PMs might be part of the hypertrophic process and substantially contribute to LV mass. We investigated the impact of inand exclusion of the PMs to LV mass in the assessment of prognostic LV parameters in HCM.

Impact of the papillary muscles on cardiac magnetic resonance image analysis of important left ventricular parameters in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

PURPOSE The use of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) analysis has increased in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Quantification of left ventricular (LV) measures will be affected by the inclusion or exclusion of the papillary muscles as part of the LV mass, but the magnitude of effect and potential consequences are unknown. METHODS We performed Cine-CMR in (1) clinical HCM patie...

Effect of Papillary Muscles and Trabeculae on Left Ventricular Measurement Using Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the influence of papillary muscles and trabeculae on left ventricular (LV) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) analysis using three methods of cavity delineation (classic or modified inclusion methods, and the exclusion method) in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study included 20 consecutive HCM patients who u...

Clinical Utility of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by substantial genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity, leading to considerable diversity in clinical course including the most common cause of sudden death in young people and a determinant of heart failure symptoms in patients of any age. Traditionally, two-dimensional echocardiography has been the most reliable method for establishing a clinica...

Elevated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin is associated with hypertrophy and fibrosis assessed with CMR in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Background High-sensitivity (hs) cardiac troponin is a valuable biomarker of myocardial injury and frequently elevated in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) the HCM phenotype can be characterized in great detail with fibrosis as a key finding with prognostic impact. Therefore, our aim was to investigate whether elevated troponin levels...

Discrepant Measurements of Maximal Left Ventricular Wall Thickness Between Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Echocardiography in Patients With Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

BACKGROUND We sought to compare maximal left ventricular (LV) wall thickness (WT) measurements as obtained by routine clinical practice between echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and document causes of discrepancy. METHODS AND RESULTS One-hundred and ninety-five patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (median age, 52.8±15.1 years) who underwent echocardiography and CMR im...
